5 Inspiring Women |#IWD2018

Hiiiiii,

This should have come earlier but since we’re still in International Womens Day (#IWD) month , I’ll be sharing some women I admire. Thanks to social media, I’ve learnt from these ladies though I’ve never met them. Their hardwork, excellence, passion and originality have made them stand out in their fields and have been an inspiration to me. In order of how long I’ve ‘known‘ them, here goes…

Patricia Bright

Full of life, humour and many songs, Patricia is easy to love. She’s a UK- based lifestyle and beauty Youtuber who started in 2010 and has grown to over 2 million subscribers. With a degree in Accounting and Finance from University of Manchester, Patricia has experience in business and is steady making that coin. She has worked with many brands including Mac, L’Oreal and Lancôme, was recently featured as cover girl on Glamour UK’s SS18 Beauty book and recently released her own merchandise.

Theres room for everyone who works hard and pushes themselves to achieve, let’s be inspired and lift up those around us, and never push down.

She is down to earth and very relatable especially in her YouTube videos where she’s always ‘shining shining’, sometimes ‘boujee-thot’ but always ‘rich in colour, rich in life’ (you need to watch her videos to understand). She is also a wife and mother.

For beauty tips, shopping guides, a good laugh and honest talk, Patricia’s your girl. Follow her Instagram, YouTube, and Twitter.

Kemi Adetiba

Kemi Adetiba, also called the ‘Bruce Lee of Visuals’, is an award-winning film maker, director and cinematographer. With a law degree from University of Lagos and a natural flair for communications, she started working as a radio presenter at Rhythm 93.7FM. She moved on to work with Studio 53 after university where she gained a lot of experience in front of the camera.

For a woman, “ambition” should not be a dirty word. Never be ashamed of wanting more.

Her curiosity and desire to have longevity in the game urged her to train to be behind the camera. In 2008, she got a degree in Film from the New York Film Academy, after which she produced a number of Nigerian music videos, including TY Bello’s ‘Ekundayo’, Bez’s ‘More you’ and Waje’s ‘Onye’.

In 2016, she received praise for directing ‘the Wedding Party’, a movie which was premiered at Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). This comes as no surprise as she has an eye for detail and high standard of excellence which shines through in everything she does. She is the producer of ‘King Women’, a web series on some of Nigeria’s powerful women (find my post on it here), and is currently working on another movie, ‘King of Boys’. Stay connected to her and watch out for it via her Instagram and Twitter.

Yemisi Odusanya

Fondly referred to as Sisi Yemmie, Yemisi is an Award-winning food and lifestyle blogger, content creator and Youtuber based in Lagos. She started blogging in 2011 and YouTube later where she has over 100,000 subscribers. Apart from food and lifestyle, she blogs about motherhood, living in Lagos, her travel experiences and restaurant reviews. Sisi has all the the Nigerian recipes you need.

Similar to Patricia who she admires, Sisi Yemmie is down to earth, her accent doesn’t change for the cameras and I love that about her. She’s honest about her life and experiences and doesn’t try to put on a show. She’s quick to say when she’s trying something for the first time or didn’t really enjoy an experience everyone seemed hyped about.

She has collaborated with brands like Maggi, Oral- B, Tecno and Samsung. She was recently featured on CNN and on the cover of Her Network magazine with some other wonder women. Sisi Yemmie is going places and I’m excited. Some of her awards include: Nigerian Blog of The Year at the 2014 ELOY Awards, City People Entertainment awards for Blogger Of The year 2015 and 2017 ELOY Award for Best Female Youtuber in Nigeria.

Follow her blog, YouTube channel and Instagram.

Cassandra Ikegbune

Mostly called Cassie Daves, Cassandra is goals for multitasking. She’s a medical doctor, award-winning blogger,  business owner and she’s under 25. Seriously, need I say more?

She started her fashion and lifestyle blog in 2013 and it has grown tremendously. On her blog, she shares about her life, travel, fashion events and her medical career. She provides consultation for bloggers and sells the Cassie Daves blog planner, a yearly journal to help bloggers plan and achieve goals with customers around Africa.

Make peace with your body/ yourself and you’re right on the road to freedom.

What intrigues me about Cassie is her ability to balance all the things she does, do it effortlessly and still take lovely photos while she’s at it. How perfect, really? The best part is she keeps it real on her Instagram stories, sharing truths about living in Lagos and the intricacies of adulting (the reality of being an adult).

Check out her very colourful page on Instagram, her new one for pictures of Lagos and her blog. Thank me later.

Eketi Ette

There are times in life when an app seems useless until you discover something on it that changes everything. That app for me was Twitter, the discovery was Eketi. This woman changed everything.

Eketi is a writer and editor. She writes short stories, most of which are her experiences, but she handles words differently. They seem to flow out of her mind seamlessly, mixing Nigerian slangs with impeccable English while keeping you fixed and scrolling, forgetting the many other things you have to do.

So many people have said how they read her stories and find them themselves laughing uncontrollably. It’s been advised that you don’t eat pepper while reading her stories. She’s that good. She recently wrote a short story, Chinda Ella which is available on Okadabooks. Follow her on Twitter so you’ll never miss her interesting threads and check out her blog here.

These are some of the women who inspire me and give me joy when I watch their videos or read their tweets. Who inspires you on social media? Please share in the comments. I’d love to hear from you. Have a lovely day!
